Highlights from the September 2022 meeting of our Biocidal Products Committee. Our guest is Erik van de Plassche, the Chair of the Committee. We talk about: Active substance approvals Properties that lead to meeting exclusion or substitution criteria, specifically persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic or very persistent and very bioaccumulative substances. Sulphur dioxide generated from sulphur by combustion for the food and feed area as well as Sulphur dioxide released from sodium metabisulphite for fibre, leather, rubber and polymerised material preservatives. Ozone generated from oxygen for several product-types. Mecetronium ethyl sulphate (MES) for human hygiene. Requests from the European Commission Iodine and PVP-iodine as disinfectants– opinion on whether they are considered to have endocrine disrupting properties for humans and non-target organisms.
