About

Reducing and endeavouring to stop the social stigma around divorce is crucial because it can have detrimental effects on individuals' mental health, well-being, and social lives. It can also hinder individuals' ability to move forward and build healthy relationships. That is why reduction in stigma around divorce or separation is important. The stigma of divorce can lead to feelings of shame, guilt, and embarrassment, potentially causing anxiety and depression. It can induce Social Isolation. Social stigma can lead to individuals feeling judged and criticized, which can result in social isolation and a lack of support. Fear of social disapproval can influence decisions during divorce, such as staying in an unhappy marriage or settling for less than deserved. The stigma can make it difficult to move forward and build healthy relationships after divorce, potentially impacting future romantic and familial connections. The legal framework surrounding divorce must also reflect this understanding. Current matrimonial laws often reinforce patriarchal norms that disadvantage women, making it crucial for us to advocate for reforms that prioritize gender equality By promoting legal awareness and access to resources, we can empower women to assert their rights effectively during divorce proceedings. It is essential that we recognize women as equal individuals with rights independent of their husbands or families.
