Our Guest today is Dr. Megan McIntyre, Assistant Professor and Director of Rhetoric and Composition program at the University of Arkansas. She did her Ph.D. in the subject from the University of South Florida and worked with Dart mouth College and the California State University System before joining U of A. She and her team of Grad students work to assist freshmen, sophomores, and juniors with writing. She facilitates literacy teachers in practicing anti-racist and equitable pedagogy. She aims to counter assumptions regarding the relative superiority of languages, dialects, or accents to create literacy pedagogies conscious of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, and other markers of difference. Cognizant of the embedded systems of power in Englishes, especially academic English, Dr. McIntyre draws attention to the need for syllabus design and attendance and assignment policies predicated upon equity to ensure comfort for all participants in the literacy classroom.
