If the intent of Pixar’s new release “Turning Red” was to do exactly that to its audience, then mission accomplished. We did turn red — with anger and frustration over a muddled movie. Don’t get us wrong, it was beautiful and had some touching themes, but the execution made the movie feel like they copied Encanto and made it worse. Specifically, they tried to cram way too much into the Red Panda metaphor. What could have been a tear-jerking masterpiece was a one-sniffle-max passive piece of entertainment.
