Carl Denke, the forgotten cannibal, was a German serial killer who kept a ledger recording his kills in Munsterberg, Germany. Denke was a failed farmer who turned to cannibalism and sold meat, possibly human, at his shop. He was also a cross-bearer and organist at a local Lutheran church. Denke's crimes were discovered after he attempted to kill a drifter who escaped and alerted the police. He was arrested but hanged himself in his holding cell.
