EPISODE 5 | SKILLS REQUIRED FOR A PRESENTATION.How to speak at events or do a presentation? It's a common question, and one I had to answer in order to expand my career and journey towards being a public speaker. We've all heard about having an elevator speech, but does this still hold true for aspiring speakers and presenters? In this blog post I'm going to highlight my top 5 tips for having a great presentation at any event, interview or boardroom meeting, that includes being enthusiastic and as honest as possible about what you are about to present or speak about, focusing on the audience and great body language to name a few.Enthusiasm and HonestyTalks – especially when given freely – usually get appreciated as a demonstration of knowledge. Since you're addressing such a wide audience, the talk should be very informative and inspiring. But what makes the people in the room enjoy your talk is something else: thorough preparation, enthusiasm and honesty. The right room and audienceBeing in the right room and addressing the right audience is very important to how you structure or present how you talk to a group of people. Do not focus on being understood, just articulate yourself enough to be heard.Focused on the AudienceFocus on what the audience can get out of your presentation, a really good presenter can if the environment permits build and deliver their presentation around the audience and not themselves.I would advise you to make as much eye contact as possible. You will be able to read the audience and be able to draw questions out of your audience easier because they would be familiar with making contact with the speaker.Side peace I know some circumstances such as interviews may seem intimidating but the audience is your interview panel and the event is the interview itself. So, present your case about why they would be missing out if they did not hire you, good luck.Simple speechOne of the key attributes of a great presenter is their ability to turn complex topics into simple digestible pieces of information for the majority of the intended recipients. To keep it straight to the point a presentation is a teaching tool, when teaching a topic or conveying an idea it is imperative to present it in the simplest terms as much as possible so that the audience will leave the room knowing more than they did coming to your presentation.Great Body LanguageLast but definitely not least is your body language. In Fact, we should have started with this because when we present to people unless standing behind a podium the most showing feature in our presentation is our body. There are many common dos and don'ts when it comes to how you position your body when you're in a presentation. Be very aware of these things. It is your responsibility to learn and apply these when standing in front of an audience and delivering your awesome idea or teaching a topic that you find interesting and worth sharing.Thank you so much for downloading this podcast. It has been a pleasure to bring your words, stories, and ideas to the other side of the speakers. I have been grateful for the opportunity to share my voice with others and I hope another person or two will be able to find new inspiration in this episode. Hosted on Acast.
