About

Weather forecasting is a tough business. There are many variables, and the margin for error is slim. And errors in prediction here can have dire, life-altering consequences. How can artificial intelligence help us gauge the weather better and thereby save lives? Perhaps, an AI model that can predict a flood 15 days before it strikes? Or, a model that uses AI to figure out in advance which properties are potentially at risk in a disaster?  Credits:  Narration: Harsha Bhogle Executive Producer: Gaurav Vaz Producer: Archana Nathan Research, Interviews and Scripts: Prthvir Solanki Narrative overview: Charu Sharma & Shriram Parthasarathy Executive leadership: Rohini Srivathsa & Somanna Palacanda Title track, sound design & background score: Nikhil Rao and Abhijit Nath All clips and voices used in this podcast are owned by the original creators We thank wholeheartedly all our guests who appeared on this episode  Prof. Shafiqul Islam Manmeet Singh Anshu Sharma   Sources: The Wire - News report about the FIR filed by farmers in Beed Business Standard - News report about the FIR filed by farmers in Beed Relief Web - Details about the Paradip Cyclone in 1999 Hindustan Times - Details about the Paradip Cyclone in 1999 New Indian Express - Damage and aftermath of Cyclone Amphan The Hindu - Death toll and aftermath of Cyclone Amphan OpenAI’s work on Dactyl Details on OpenAI’s Rubik’s Cube Solving AI arm History of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology Details on the 2015 heatwave in India Scroll - Viral video of a woman cooking eggs on the floor of her home in Telangana NIE - Viral video of a man cooking eggs on the road in Odisha WMO - Climate Predictions
