Success books explored for validity, authority and truth

"I've read 300 books on success." That was the lead from a speaker at a conference I was on, and he was not successful, so none of them worked. This episode is how I read a success book, from someone who wrote one with the word success in the title and meant it as a guide, not a promise. I share the white label success book: a licensed template, ninety percent written, where you add a few stories and your name. Not theft, because the text is licensed, but plagiarism by definition. Watch for the same quotes from the same people across thousands of titles. I share why even a true success story can mislead: the author may not know the investor, the team or the timing that made it work, and I have been under confidentiality agreements on projects the public story never mentions. There is no common metric. Every "this is how you write a hit song" formula has as many contradictions as examples. What I look for: is it stewarding or a sales pitch with a call to action at the end of every chapter? Was anything stated as fact technically edited, the way Wiley did with my third book? Is the truth in it current, or a 1930s idea reprinted in 2020? And is the bestseller badge on the cover the 350 dollar robot download I have talked about before?
