Ravana sent two of his spies disguised as monkeys in an effort to discover Rama's plans. He then tried to torture Sita with another of his magic tricks. In the meantime, Rama decided which of his commanders should go to which gate. He himself, along with Lakshmana, decided to go to the north gate, which was being guarded by Ravana himself.
