At sixteen-years-old Shale has spent her entire living memory within the cold stone walls of Silverwood monastery. Her only joys come from reading about heroes and pretending to be a hero. Her life changes when three strangers arrive from the west to tell her of her magical abilities and secret past. But an ancient evil has returned to Yim and it hunts her and her kind.
