About

Former national ski jumping coach Werner Schuster is returning to the German Ski Association (DSV) four years after leaving. The comeback of the former "goldsmith" was announced by DSV sports director Horst Hüttel after a closed conference in Bischofsgrün. Schuster, who last worked with talents in his home country of Austria at the Stams ski school, will be the "head coach for young people" in the men's and women's divisions from the summer.Ex-jumper Ronny Hornschuh is also back on the DSV coaching team after eight years as the Swiss national coach. The 48-year-old takes over management of the B squad with immediate effect. The former base coach for Thuringia succeeds Andreas Mitter, who will support national coach Stefan Horngacher in the World Cup in the future.Schuster expects an exciting task when he returns to DSV. "I'm really looking forward to this new challenge and to being able to contribute my expertise and experience as a coach to the youth work," said the 53-year-old. Under Schuster's direction, the German Eagles won team gold at the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, as well as several world championship titles and numerous other medals at major events. The talents should now benefit from the knowledge he acquired in eleven years as national coach. "During my time as national coach, I was able to get to know the system and many dedicated coaches in Germany and gain experience that will certainly benefit me in my new role. I am firmly convinced that we have the best conditions in Germany with our base system to also be able to play in Germany To be able to systematically and strategically train future ski jumpers at a world-class level," said Schuster.Hüttel also expects a lot from Schuster's and Hornschuh's engagements. "Both are familiar with the DSV system and have a high level of competence and leadership qualities. Together with all the trainers involved, it is now important to develop the quality of cooperation across all course groups in a positive way," said Hüttel: "We want to give new impetus to the youth sector. The aim is to remedy current deficits in order to bring as many talents as possible back to the top of the world in the long term." Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
