About
Mark chapter 9 starts with the Transfiguration of Jesus as he takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain where they saw Jesus transformed before them, conversing with Moses and Elijah. Next, a man brought his possessed son to Jesus, whom the disciples were not able to heal. Jesus rebuked the demon, and the boy was healed after the father showed his belief. Jesus then teaches his disciples that he would be betrayed and killed, but would rise again on the third day. The disciples did not understand and were afraid to ask questions. They then come to a conversation about greatness, and Jesus tells his disciples that whoever wants to be first must be the last and servant of all. He also warns against causing others to stumble and to strive for peace. The chapter ends with Jesus using an analogy of salt to emphasize the importance of living a life that is good not just for oneself, but for others.
