In Luke Chapter 5, Jesus calls Simon and other fishermen to become his disciples. When they catch a large number of fish, Simon recognizes Jesus' power and falls to his knees, declaring himself a sinful man. Jesus then tells Simon that he will become a fisher of men. He heals a man with leprosy and forgives and heals a paralytic man. The Pharisees question Jesus' authority to forgive sins, but he demonstrates his ability to do so by healing the paralytic. Jesus then calls Levi, a tax collector, to follow him, and eats with him and other tax collectors and sinners, causing controversy among the Pharisees.
