Reprinted many times since, often under alternative title of "The White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains," the tale chronicles the misfortunes of Krantz, A Hungarian nobleman's steward, who flees from Transylvania with his three children after murdering his unfaithful wife and lover.Captain Frederick Marryat was a Royal Navy officer and novelist. He is noted today as an early pioneer of nautical fiction, particularly for his semi-autobiographical novel Mr Midshipman Easy (1836).
