The Blemmyes, also known as Sternophthalmoi or "Chest-Eyes", were a tribe of headless, men with their faces set upon their chests. The Chest-Eyes were popular in Medieval bestiaries and in the Terra Incognita illustrations of maps.Ancient historical texts recorded their existence all over the world, from Africa to Greece and beyond. Explorers and scholars wrote of the Blemmyes, including Christopher Columbus and Herodotus.
