About
Deep in the forests of the Nilgiri Hills, a young boy and an elephant named Bhama grow up side by side. Over the years, they learn each other’s voices, footsteps, habits, and silences. Then, one day, when the man who has cared for Bhama is badly injured in the forest, it is Bhama who must find a way to bring him home.Inspired by an oral story from the Betta Kurumba community of the Nilgiri Hills, this gentle tale explores the remarkable bond that can grow between people and elephants. It is a story about trust, memory, loyalty, and the quiet ways in which two beings can come to understand one another. Oak Tree Stories brings timeless tales from India to young listeners, with stories that invite children and families to slow down, wonder, and listen. Inspired by this story?
