Edward Christopher Sheeran is a renowned English singer-songwriter and guitarist. During his childhood, his father John took him to live concerts of famous artists like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney, who became the inspiration for his musical creations. Ed started singing in a local church choir at the young age of 4, and learned guitar during his school days. He was accepted at the National Youth Theatre in London when he was just a teenager.
Sheeran independently released his first collection in 2004 (Spinning Man). He moved to London in 2008, performed solo gigs in small venues and auditioned for Britannia High, an ITV series. Ed released his next EP (You Need Me) in 2009 which contained superhit singles like You Need Me, I Don’t Need You, Be Like You, The City and Sunburn. The same year, Sheeran started studying music at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey. In 2010, the vocalist released his critically acclaimed EP Loose Change, which reached number 90 on the UK Albums Chart (2011) - with pop-rock numbers like Firefly, Let It Out and Little Bird. Ed released another EP (No.5 Collaborations Project) in 2011 in collaboration with artists including Wiley, Jme, Devlin, Sway and Ghetts. The EP sold over 7000 copies within the first week of its release without any promotion or label. The EP got Sheeran the attention he needed, for shortly thereafter he signed up with Asylum Records. Ed Sheeran released his first studio album + (pronounced “plus”) in 2011. The album contained his massive hit single The A Team, which was number three in the UK Singles Chart and became a Top 10 hit in many countries. The album, which sold over 1 million copies in the UK, was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. In 2014, Ed released his second studio album x (pronounced “multiply”) which topped the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, and was the the best selling album in several countries in 2014. The album contained chartbusters like Sing, Bloodstream, Photograph and Thinking Out Loud which topped the charts in many countries. The album was certified 3x platinum in UK with over 1 million copies sold. Sheeran stayed on top of the charts in 2017 with hits like Shape of You and Castle on the Hill from his album ÷ (Deluxe).
