Born in Rishikesh and raised in Delhi, Neha Kakkar started singing from the age of 4. She sang Bhajans with her sister (Sonu Kakkar) at Mata Ki Chowkis and Jaagrans in Delhi and Gurgaon. Neha first came into the spotlight with her participation in the season 2 of Indian Idol where she received much appreciation. Thereafter, she gained recognition in the Indian music industry thanks to her unconventional high-octane voice.
Neha Kakkar launched her first album, Neha The Rockstar composed by Meet Brothers in 2008. The album gained moderate success and helped her bag playback singing offers from Bollywood. After a few average songs, she was got an opportunity to sing Second Hand Jawaani (Cocktail) along with Miss Pooja and Nakkash Aziz. The song brought her the recognition she had been waiting for, and offers started pouring in. Her next success was the song Dhating Naach from Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (2013). The fast paced song became one of the biggest dance tracks of the year. Other successful songs followed, such as the punjabi folk dance number London Thumakda (Queen), the trippy Manali Trance (The Shaukeens) and the spirited Kar Gayi Chull from Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921), establishing her as a talented singer. She further consolidated her position with mega hits like Kala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho), Gal Ban Gayi (Gal Ban Gayi), Maahi Ve (Wajah Tum ho), O Janiya (Force 2) and Naina (Dangal). Her life came full circle when she was chosen to judge Zee TV’s popular singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs. From participating in a reality show to judging one, Neha Kakkar has come a long way within a short period of time.
